In the spiritual teachings of Hinduism there is the concept of the Akashic Records. This is the idea that all thoughts that have ever been thought are recorded for all time in a place called the Akash, translated as Space or the Ether.
In addition, all thoughts that ever will be thought in the future are already in the Akashic Records, ready to be downloaded
when some mind in a human body is ready to receive them. And not just all thoughts. All rhythms past, present and future are in the Akashic Records, as well.
The thoughts recorded in the Akash exist independent of time and space. They always will be there. They always were there, before there was a world or people to have them. For this reason Hindus refer to their belief systems as Sanatana Dharma, the Eternal Way in harmony with the rhythms of the universe, the always existent infinite truth.
All the worlds religions reference higher beings above human consciousness. Polytheistic religions identify and pray to numerous Gods and Goddesses with distinct powers and knowledge. The monotheistic religions attribute all these powers and knowledge to the one God, and yet identify seven levels of angels having different degrees of higher consciousness and venerate innumerable saints.
The worlds religions are inspired by or based on revelations as result of an individual tuning in to Divine Consciousness. The most sacred texts of Hinduism in verse form, the Vedas and the Upanishads, were not composed or written. They were revealed to or “heard” by a holy man sitting in meditation in a cave in the
Himalayas. In contemporary language this would be called “channelling” or “downloading” the eternal wisdom from the MetaCloud.
The Sacred words or mantras were memorized and passed on orally from master to disciple. Only much later were they written down. These verses that were heard emanating from the akash, were and still are taken as absolute divine truth and are the basis of all sects of Hinduism.
Similarly, the Holy Bible is considered the “Word of God”, the unchallengeable total truth, internal inconsistencies not withstanding. Believers claim Divine Authorship, saying that God breathed the Bible to the prophets, especially Moses, Jesus and Paul.
In like manner, the Koran was heard by Mohammad, spoken to him by the Archangel Gabriel, and recorded in Arabic by a Persian disciple, because Mohammed was illiterate. The Arabs have a long tradition of reciting inspired original poetry around the campfire on long caravan journeys.
Buddha realized the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to enlightenment after sitting under a Bodhi tree for long periods in silent meditation.
We say, “A thought just popped in to my head.” Where did it come from? We say, “I just had an inspiration.” meaning, it seems, that a bit of spirit came into one’s field of awareness.
A Jesuit philosopher, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, wrote in The Phenomenon of Man, of a Noossphere, or sphere of thought, enveloping the planet. I read his book during freshman year in college and it made a great impression on me. I remember applying this idea to the other philosophers I was reading, thinking that I was entering into their thought sphere.
It came to me that no one can ever fully communicate their ideas or their understanding of a concept in words or pictures only. However, when we read the words that someone wrote we can actually tune-in to their state of mind, enter into their thought bubble in the Noossphere, joining the wave length of their thought, thereby getting a direct transmission from the “higher mind”. And so become one with the very thought process which the original author was following in the cosmic conceptual repository.
I see this eternal repository of thought or ideas as an explanation why more than one mind can have the same “original” thought
simultaneously in isolated places on the earth, as has happened many times in cultural movements, in the zeitgeist of the
moment, and in mathematics and philosophy.
It seems to me that thoughts are not limited by space and time. But do they have physicality? They carry information, but are they a wave or a particle, as we say of light?
Is our atmosphere always full of thoughts, new and old, coursing through it all the time like radio waves, light waves and all the other wave lengths?
Now we have the Cloud and AI. Which seems to be kind of like the Noossphere, except that it requires energy to maintain and it costs money to access, therefore the Cloud and AI can generate a profit.
While the akashic records are eternal, AI and the internet have a beginning in history. There is a “time before internet”. There is no exact date for the beginning of the web, but somewhere in the early nineties it jumped from a few hundred to a few thousand to billions today.
As I understand it, AI’s source of information is the entire worldwide Netscape. That source, that knowledge base is however, extremely time restricted. Basically just about anything before 1985 is not easily accessible on the internet. Further, AI is known to tailor answers to the prejudices of the inquirer.
Whole libraries of millions of books are not uploaded yet. Like the lost libraries of Alexandria, this information collected over thousands of years, manuscripts, printed sources and photos is not available to AI. Similarly, oral teachings passed from Guru
to disciple are not accessible.
The akashic records, aka the Noosphere, is free for the downloading, if one knows how. Its store of knowledge is infinite. It is not time bound and has no beginning or end. If all thoughts are already present, eternally existing in the repository of the akash, the only energy required on our part is the mental effort from the person doing the downloading.
Yet what kind of eternal inexhaustible energy keeps the akashic records from disappearing? Divine Consciousness is a self generating energy field.
If we simultaneously consider all the thoughts that all and every human being is thinking now, ever did think and ever will think. Then consider other all forms of thought. Imagine all forms of consciousness or all forms of awareness that all the animals, all the insects, all the plants, and even all the smallest forms of microbial life have, and add that to human consciousness, it would still only be a part of Divine Consciousness.
Even inanimate objects, such as minerals in crystal form, have an atomic consciousness. known as the strong force and the weak force that governs atomic relationships. Even rocks and concrete have the awareness of like molecules bonding to one
another.
These are all earth bound. What kinds of consciousness exist in outer space, in distant galaxies, in unknown time warps?
This totality of knowledge, wisdom, awareness is the ocean of thought that we live in and are part of. As Divine Consciousness necessarily includes our individual thoughts and emotions, we are part of, not separate from Divine Consciousness. It is always and forever accessible to us. We are it.

Thank you. I’ve been hearing about the Akashic Records for years. Nice to get the official description. It’s lovely. As far as the Bible goes, I suggest reading Elaine Pagels, “Beyond Belief, the Secret Gospel of Thomas.” Pagels says that the decision about which gospels were included in the Bible was largely a political decision that came from a letter written in 365 C.E. by Athanasius, the very unpopular bishop of Alexandria. The gospels that claimed we can access God ourselves were left out. The gospels that claimed we only have to believe what the Bible says and our own experience and actions don’t matter were included in the Bible. That reinforced Constantine’s control of his empire, which was partly administered by Bishops, and presumably the priests acting under them. Thanks for inspiring thoughts.
