(Sur)Mountain’

The cosmic life lessons
were brutally learned.
All of those sudden        drop offs
and deep pits
and debilitating turns.

Blood drawn while
slashing at thorns
and tangled bramble
to find my way
through
the treachery
of thousands
of yesterdays
to get where
I am ultimately
headed to.
That moment
where I can
finally look out
from ascension
and survey
the panoramic,
full view…

Never would I ever
trade wisdom
for youth.

I choose to lose oxygen
from the altitude
of the highest possible path.

There is no turning around.
There is no going back.
