The Awakening Blueprint: A Licensed Psychologist and Psychic Medium’s Guide to Spiritual Awakening

As a licensed clinical psychologist, psychic medium, reiki energy healer, and author of Waking Up, I have a unique blend of training that have shaped my understanding of spiritual awakenings and personal transformation. From working with individual therapy clients to performing reiki, sitting with a client during an 8-hour psilocybin journey, to communicating with loved ones on the Other Side, … I have crafted a list of strategies aimed to help you initiate or deepen your spiritual awakening!

In no particular order …

1. Practice listening to your intuition

First things first. What is an “intuition?” Think of it as your inner GPS. A quiet whisper that gently nudges you in your right direction. Fear or anxiety tend to be loud or urgent. Our intuition is soft and calm. It is that gut feeling we experience when we just “know” something. Want to practice? Start small. Ask yourself a simple yes-or-no question. It could be “Should I go for a walk?” Breathe in deep and wait for that first quiet knowing to come forward. That is it. Write it down. Check back later. Was it right? How did it guide you? What might you have learned? Intuition WILL sharpen with continued practice!

2. Give positive affirmations a try

When I was in graduate school, a friend of mine reminded me, “it matters, how we talk to ourselves, too.” Despite my pesky stubbornness to avoid this Truth, it was, indeed, just that: Truth. And that Truth lingered, as Truth does, with me. How we speak to ourselves, MATTERS. And all the internalized fear? Yes, that energy can filter in as an inner critic, of sorts. The best remedy? Positive affirmations. And I mean, REALLY, these things WORK! There is TONS of research to back this up. A simple “I am deserving of peace” said once daily in the morning, every morning … has the very power to shift the entire fabric of your internal and external world. Give it a shot. Turn it into an experiment measuring how positive affirmations might affect YOU. Write on a sticky on your bathroom mirror with your favorite affirmation. Gear it toward something you are working on allowing yourself to receive, such as “I am deserving of love.” See what happens. Me personally? Positive affirmations? They have changed my LIFE. I swear by ‘um.

3. Practice diaphragmatic breathing

If you are a client of mine, you’ve learned about diaphragmatic breathing. This breathing technique is pure magic! How it works … Set a timer for 3-5 minutes. Place your hands on your belly. Your goal will be to raise your belly through your inhales, signaling that you are, indeed, breathing into the diaphragm. Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4-5, hold for 1-2, and then exhale out of your mouth, as though you are blowing out a candle, for a count of 5-6. Do this until your timer goes off. Notice the change in your whole entire body. You will feel lighter, more grounded, and likely much calmer. And when we are rooted, our connection to something so much bigger than us, is all the louder.

4. Find yourself a good book

Books are portals. Explore the self-transformation section. Learn about the psychic clares. Learn about dowsing rods and oracle decks and tarot cards and pendulums. Watch as your mind expands, and in turn, your spirit, too. Make it a sacred process. Light a candle, or some sage … sprinkle some lavender oil aromatherapy around your reading space.

5. Join a group therapy program

Join a community of like-minded folx who are going through similar areas of concern or struggles as you. There is nothing quite like talking to another person who can relate to what you are struggling with, too. Who can see you in a way that they otherwise could not. That spark of connecton? That seeing? THAT is Source. And when you see Source in someone else, you will see Source in you, too. Now, all that is left to do, is let yourself see it!

6. Earth in nature

Plant your feet barefoot in the grass. Your toes in the sand. Hands in the dirt. This is called earthing, and it’s a powerful way to ground yourself. Take just five minutes to plant your feet firmly on the earth. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and imagine roots extending from your feet into the ground. Feel the planet’s heartbeat. This is pure connection. And if you listen close enough? You will feel and hear something far more than just your thoughts.

7. Tap into community

Talk to a friend. Start a group. Join a recreational league. Plan a night out. Play, and have fun. One of the biggest illusions in our lifetime is that we are alone. But truth is, we NEVER are! And we all need support. Current research suggests it just takes three people. Three people to talk to, to connect with. So, who are your three? How can you connect with them? How can you find them? Talking to others who allow you space, who see you, who validate you? THAT, alone, has the potential and the power to spark positive global change.

8. Purchase an oracle deck

Go to your nearest metaphysical shop and pick out an oracle deck that calls to you. Don’t overthink it. Just reach. Your body will respond before your mind does. Don’t ask questions around why a particular deck has called to you. Simply allow yourself to receive it. Pull at least one card every day for 30 days. See how the “coincidences” are just too timed and too perfect to be “just” coincidences.

9. Ask for a sign from Spirit

Source, or Universal energy, is either NOTHING, or … EVERYTHING! And, if Source is everything, well, then Source is always listening. So? Speak out loud! Request a sign from Source itself to help inform you. To help remind you that you are not alone. To aid you in answering a question. For example: “Source, I need a sign that I’m going to be okay, show me a butterfly in the next 72 hours.” It is often suggested within the spiritual community to allow Source a 3-day window (I know, I know … I hear it, too!). Again, you can think of this one as a scientific experiment. What happens if I do this? And seriously, what is the WORST that COULD happen if you DID give it a try? That you could regain … hope?! Connection?! Hey, I say that THAT … is worth the shot.

10. Talk to a medium or a psychic

Talk to a legitimate medium or psychic who can answer your questions and explore hidden Truths with you. Ask your Spirit team, your crew on the Other Side, in the In Between, to give you a sign during your meeting. Tell them, “I’m going to be meeting with a medium tomorrow. Tell the medium to bring up X when I am talking with her.” Watch what happens …

11. Try out a reiki energy healing session

Book a reiki energy healing session to revitalize, restore, and help balance the energetic centers of your body. Notice how you feel beforehand, during, and after treatment. See how this can shift your mood, your physical health, your overall well-being, and even your perspective on life itself!

12. Share your story

You never can truly know the impact that YOU alone can have on the whole entire planet. You may just be the voice that that one person was needing to hear to know they existed. Or? You may just be the voice we ALL need to hear. You are here for a reason. Let’s see what happens!

13. Do at least one nice thing for someone else every day for at least 30 days

Remember, Source recognizing Source in someone else, is therefore, Source recognizing itself as Source. Imagine what 30 days of doing something nice for someone else could do. And not just for yourself, but for someone else, and many others, too. Do not discount the idea of the butterfly effect. One small action truly can inspire global change.

14. Attend a yoga class

Yoga is a fantastic practice, backed by my own personal experience AND science, to reconnect with our physical body, our feelings, and our spirit. It can help us release stagnant or stored energy in the body as to allow better flow of more expansive and healing energy, in turn.

15. Attend a breathwork class

I once had a friend tell me that he attended a breathwork session (mind you, completely sober) and “tripped so hard that I astrally projected to a different dimension where I met aliens and was told that they were my siblings.” I mean, hey? Why NOT give, whatever that is, a try?!

16. Talk to a therapist you intuit is the “right fit”

Finding the right therapist can be … exhausting. If you’re lucky, you might connect with the perfect provider on your first try. But, for many, it’s a journey. And it’s worth the effort! Current research demonstrates that the single most healing factor of therapy is the relationship itself between client and therapist. So, who you choose matters! My best advice? Trust your intuition. Ask yourself: Does this person feel safe? Do I feel held and supported in their presence? The right fit will feel secure, compassionate, and genuine. Therapy certainly isn’t always comfortable or easy. But, with the right provider, you’ll feel as supported as possible, even in the hardest of moments. And this is a non-negotiable. Do not settle for anything less than you deserve! Because when you find the right therapist? They don’t just help you heal. They can help you transform your entire life AND the Universe itself!

17. Express your authenticity in Love and in Spirit

When you show up as your truest self, you naturally attract what’s aligned with your frequency, the unique vibration you send out into the world. So, wear that pink sparkly top. Take that acting class. Follow the whispers of your heart, wherever they may lead. If it’s your calling, it will KEEP calling. And that? That is proof of the magic. Your magic.

Ready for More?

If you want to dive deeper, my book Waking Up is now available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle. It is a collection of poetry and prose exploring grief, trauma, and spiritual awakenings. It is written in dedication to my first love, Walter Aubin, who died of suicide when I was 18. For I do know, dear reader, how dark life can get, too. But that is NOT where the story ends. Keep going! And, keep reading for more! (:
